Ben-Yishai, Yeshayahu (Shaike)

Yeshayahu (Shaike), son of Shoshana and Shabtai Son of-Yishai, was born on September 25, 1948 in Tel Aviv. Already in the first year in the army, the first war – the Six-Day War – found him. By the end of his regular service, he had managed to fill a variety of command positions in his unit and successfully, and then the day of liberation came. During the Yom Kippur War, Shaike participated in the difficult battles of the Firdan Bridge in Sinai. On the 12th of Tishrei 5734 (October 8, 1973) he fell in battle when the tank he commanded was hit. For many months Shaike was among the missing, a period of nightmare. Finally it was confirmed that Shaike had fallen! Shaike was brought to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He left behind a wife, son, parents, brother and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to captain. On his 27th birthday, which he did not celebrate, his family and friends planted a grove in his name in the Valley of Ayalon.
