Ben-Yamin, Oded


Son of Jonah and Moshe, was born on December 3, 1922 to a family of workers in Tel Aviv. He had a great fondness for studies and diligence and perseverance paved the way to Gymnasia “Herzliya” and graduated with honors. During the Second World War he enlisted in the British Army and served in the Royal Air Force for four years, but there he continued to study in special military courses and took written examinations. After being released from the British army, he began studying at the university, in the Faculty of Natural Sciences. He had acquired the reputation of having outstanding talents in mathematics and physics. With the rest of the students, he was called to service with the declaration of the United Nations General Assembly on the partition of the land and was not deterred by any task assigned to him and his platoon until his dying day. The fighters left Hartuv on the night of 15-16 January, loaded with weapons, ammunition and equipment, but due to the late hour of departure and the difficulties of the road, they could not reach Gush Katif in the night.
