Ben Yaakov, Chaim (Aco)


The son of Ruchama and Yaakov, was born in 1903 in the city of Zakho, Iraq. Chaim started to study in a “cheder” and then went to finish in an elementary school. After that he started to work he specializing in agricultural and was the main breadwinner for his parents. Shortly after he married and had a child. After the first child he decided to take his wife and daughter across the border illegally to the holy land. They arrived in Israel in 1925 and settled in Jerusalem He constantly dreamed of setting up his own farm, but because he had to support his family this only came about twenty years later. Chaim fell during an attack on the village while trying to protect its inhabitants, on the 29th of Tevet 5708 (11.1.1948) after he left the synagogue in the morning. He was survived by, his wife Pircha, and seven orphaned children. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Rechovot.
