Ben-Shalom (Friedenson), Gad


Son of Leah and Mordechai, was born in 1919 in the city of Turk, Poland. As a child he immigrated with his entire family to Eretz Israel. As a teenager, he joined the ranks of the Haganah and worked as a truck driver for a living. On the day of the United Nations General Assembly resolution on the partition of the country, Gad was also among the celebrants, and a friend testifies to him that when the joy engulfed the joyous celebrants, Gad heard: “Many victims will demand the establishment of the state and who knows how many and who will be among the fallen.” Gad was pleasant, And as a member of the Haganah, he took every action when necessary, and in the meantime continued to work for a living as a driver, and on the evening of Kislev, 5702 (December 2, 1947), workers returned from the airport in Kastina. When he arrived at the Abu Kabir junction, he was forced to stop at a stone checkpoint set up by Arab rioters who attacked the passengers of the truck and he was among the fallen. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
