Ben-Shabbat, Abraham
Son of Perahia and Shmuel, was born on November 5, 1922, in Haifa. His father was a member of the executive committee of the Haifa community, a school principal and a veteran educator, and his mother – Perahia nee Kalfon – an established family in Israel. He received a religious education at the “Netzach Yisrael” school. He studied at the Reali School in Haifa in the years 1936-1937 and after receiving a matriculation certificate he was accepted to the Kadouri agricultural school because he loved nature and especially attracted to the flora. He graduated from the Kadoorie School in 1942 and enlisted in the British Army, then joined the Jewish Brigade, and fought in the Italian front, and became famous as an expert sniper until he was appointed as a freshman. With his friends, graduates of the Kadoorie School in Kibbutz Beit Keshet at the foot of Mount Tabor, he worked and specialized in all branches of the agriculture, and he liked everything in his good mood, his sense and his precision in the work. He read many books of archeology and botany, and with the outbreak of the War of Independence he was invited several times to Haifa to “snipe” my grandfather In Hadar Hacarmel as well as attacks on concentrations of gangs in the village of Ein Mahel bought and. They were attacked from ambush by a gang of hundreds of Arab tribesmen who surrounded them. One managed to escape to the kibbutz and call for reinforcements. The seven remaining young men fought heroically to the last ball and all fell. After three days of tedious negotiations, their bodies were returned. Avraham was brought to eternal rest in the Beit Keshet cemetery. He was about twenty-five when he fell. Survived by his parents and two sisters – Rina and Esther.
