Ben-Or (Orbach), Aryeh (“Aki”)

Aryeh, the only son of Joshua and Ida Orbach (son of-Or), was born in Petah Tikva on July 9, 1938, to an established family in Israel. After completing his studies at the Weizman elementary school in Herzliya, he attended the Tel Aviv High School and completed his studies there. Aryeh participated in the Sinai Campaign. Aryeh participated in the Six Day War and two days before he fell, a quartet of planes led to an attack by Jordanian armor east of Jerusalem. In this attack, his unit succeeded in destroying seven enemy tanks, and despite the fire and the ammunition that Aryeh had spent on the ground, he brought another aircraft quartet into the attack, directing them for targets. His service in battle was commendable. Two days later on 1 Sivan, June 9, 1967, he landed in the north to attack the enemy from the air, and his plane crashed. He was buried in the military cemetery in Herzaliya.
