Ben-Nevat, Eliezer
Eliezer, son of Lean and Rotschild son of-Nevat, was born on the holiday of Shavuot, 1927, in Istanbul, Turkey. From his youth he aspired to immigrate to Eretz Israel, but only in early 1945 did he immigrate. He was appointed battalion commander in the Gadna company. At the end of the training period, he enlisted with his Palmach comrades and served in the Yiftach Brigade as a squadron commander, sent with his squad to perform daring missions. He excelled with great courage and went out on very dangerous activities. His comrades felt a great sense of confidence in his leadership. Eliezer took part in defending the besieged Ein Zeitim, in escorting convoys to Safed, in daring operations in Sasa and was among the fighters of Safed and Nabi Yosha. The capture of the police fortress at Nebi Yusha, on the night of the 8th of Iyar 5708 (16.5.1948), was the last of its kind. He was hit by an enemy shell and died. Eliezer was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Hulata. On the day of his death, he was told that he had a son, but he did not merit to see him. His son was named Etzion.
