Ben-Menashe, Mordechai


Mordechai, son of Menashe, was born in 1889 in the village of Arc in the Dagestan region of the Caucasus. His father was a peddler in the villages and in 1902, after selling his possessions he wanted to immigrate to Eretz Israel. At the end of 1924 he moved to Jerusalem, where he worked as a guard in Bayit Vegan. On the 17th of Av (August 23, 1920) during the riots, armed Arabs attacked the nearby villages of Ein Karem and Malha. Mordechai took care of the defense arrangements and rescued the women and children, and during his occupation he was hit by a bullet and killed. He put down a wife.
