Ben-Meiri, Ronen


Son of the Elders of Joy and Jacob Joseph. Ronen was born in Ha’emek Hospital in Afula on March 12, 1973. His brother, Yehudit, and Yeharon lived in Migdal Ha’Emek and moved to live in Haifa in the Kiryat Eliezer neighborhood in 1980. Ronen began his elementary studies at the Dror school, , And completed his high school studies at the Ironi Aleph school in August 1991. In August 1991, Ronen enlisted in the IDF and volunteered with great enthusiasm to serve in the Paratroops. Ronen spent most of his military service in Lebanon, where he fought fiercely against the terrorists and was always the first to prepare for the battle. For his activities in Lebanon he received a certificate of appreciation from the then Northern Command chief. After completing his army service, Ronen worked for two years in the Shin Bet security service, and in April 1999 he joined the police in the elite unit “Harav Gideon” (the Gideonites). Ronen served in the Gedonim Brigade for several years, thwarted hundreds of attempts to carry out terror attacks, and carried out dozens of operations to capture wanted persons, and was a candidate for the officers’ course after successfully passing all the tests. Ronen was mortally wounded and died on the way to the hospital. Ronen was thirty-one years old when he fell. He was buried in the Haifa cemetery. Survived by parents, two sisters and a brother. After Ronen’s death, many public figures from the government and from the defense establishment praised him and emphasized that Ronen cursed himself for the safety of the citizens of the State of Israel.
