Ben-Israel, Oded
Son of-Hava, and author, and teacher Dr. Asher son of-Israel was born on October 29, 1929, in Tel Aviv, his parents’ home, which was steeped in the spirit of Israeli literature and culture, had a profound impact on Oded’s life. He graduated from the Tachkemoni Municipal High School in Jerusalem and graduated with honors at the end of 1944. He continued to study at the Beit Hakerem High School and was one of the best students in the city. After he received his matriculation certificate – he was 17 – he volunteered for the Palmach,he explained his decision to his parents as a walk to agricultural training in one of the communities, so as not to cause them any concern: on 12.4.1948 he joined the givati brigade. on the night of June 2, 1948, during Operation “Pleshet”, Givati forces attacked the Egyptian array near Ashdod bridge (The “Ad Halom” bridge today), the assault was stopped by heavy enemy fire and the forces were forced to retreat, the attack failed, but forced the Egyptians to prepare for the ground and halted their advance northward,oded fell in this battle 5708 (June 3, 1948) and was buried in Nitzanim. He was 17 when he fell. On the 6 of Elul 5709 (August 31, 1949) he was transferred to the eternal rest of the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
