Ben-Hemo, David
David, son of Sarah and Shimon, was born on November 16, 1953, in Casablanca, Morocco, and immigrated to Israel with his family in early 1955. He attended the religious elementary school in Sderot and the “Torah and Crafts” yeshiva in Netivot. He was a diligent student of poetry and music and used to pass before the Ark in the synagogue and was a member of the Bnei Akiva youth movement in Sderot and guided the local youth. David was drafted into the IDF at the end of July 1972 and volunteered for the Paratroopers Brigade. During the Yom Kippur War, David worked as a combat medic in a paratroopers unit and treated both IDF casualties and enemy casualties. On October 25, 1973, he was killed in a battle that took place south of the bitter lake and was brought to eternal rest in the Mount Herzl cemetery. Survived by his parents and ten brothers and sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant. His parents donated a Torah scroll to the synagogue in Sderot.
