Ben-Hamo, Saadia

Son of Maimon and Mercedes. He was born on the 24th of Adar 2, 1932 in the city of Melia in Spain. He graduated from elementary school there. For four years he served in the Spanish army. The family immigrated to Israel in 1957. Saadia worked in construction (typography). He was active among the Sephardi Association in Dimona. He served in reserve duty only in Israel. He was a disciplined soldier and acted according to all orders. He loved life and even in difficult times knew how to entertain his friends. During the Six Day War he fell in a battle that took place in Gaza on the 27th of Iyar 5727 (June 6, 1967), the second day of the battles. He left a wife and three sons, the youngest of whom was about a year old when his father fell. He was buried in the military cemetery in Bari, and was later transferred to eternal rest in the cemetery in Dimona. In the booklet “In Memory” issued by the municipality of Dimona, his name was immortalized. In “Yesodot,” the organ of the workers’ union, his memory was raised.
