Ben Gaon, David (Bengan, Kurt)

David, son of Nelly and Alex Son of Gaon, was born on June 7, 1515 in Berlin, Germany. He was the only child of his parents and gifted with musical sense, was considered a “wonder child.” He was one of the founders of the Beitar youth movement in Berlin, and his friends in the movement remembered him as a modest, listening, serious, practical young man, determined to immigrate to Eretz Israel. When he arrived in Eretz Israel, he immediately changed his name from Bengan to Son of Gaon. David worked in the Betar labor battalions and worked in Rishon Letzion. On 12.3.1938, the car he was driving in was ambushed and he was fatally injured. He managed to aim his gun and shoot the attackers and killed two of them. David died on 16 Nisan (17/04/1938) and was buried in Nahariya. He was survived by his wife and child.
