Ben-David, David (Dario)


David (Dario), son of Leontina and Meches son of-David, was born on 8 January 1930 in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, where he studied at a Hebrew school, graduated with honors and was educated at home in the spirit of Zionism and Hebrew culture. He continued in a vocational school, specializing as a construction technician, and was a member of Hashomer Hatzair and worked for his training and preparation for pioneering aliyah. On 15.5.1948, David made aliyah through Marseilles with his youth group, although his parents pleaded with him to push off his trip. He said that he could not live in a land soaked with Jewish blood. David took part in the Battle of Beit Susin near Latrun on the 2nd of Sivan 5708 (June 9, 1948). His commander was killed and while attempting to remove his body from the battlefield, David was also killed and was buried in the military cemetery in Nahalat Yitzhak.
