Ben-Bezalel, Moshe

Moshe Son of-Bezalel, son of Ita and Bezalel, was born in 1911 in Safed. In his youth he changed his name to Son of-Bezalel. As a member of a family that was involved in local security problems, Moshe joined the Hagana and was active in Safed, the Upper Galilee and the center of the country. During the bloody riots of 1936-1939, Moshe was kidnapped by Arab gangs who suspected him of being a Jew, but because of his mastery of the Arabic language and the Arab way of life, Moshe managed to deceive them and was released. In 1938 he joined the police and during his entire service was a loyal emissary of the Haganah. On 19.11.1946, when he was standing in line for a bus on Son of Yehuda Street in Tel Aviv, two armed men approached him and declared that he had to die. They shot him and killed him. Moshe was laid to rest in a full police ceremony at the Nahalat Yitzhak cemetery. He left a son and daughter, a brother and two sisters.
