Ben-Artzi, Yuval

Son of Rachel and Hanan. He was born on September 25, 1942 in Kibbutz Amir. He received his high school education from the “Upper Galilee” educational institution, which excels in all subjects. Participated in sports and chess competitions. Blessed with talents, with quick perception and great wisdom. Was devoted to all and accepted by his friends and teachers who admired and liked him. In November 1961, he was drafted into the IDF, but due to his poor health, he was assigned an office position, and the fact that he was not allowed to join a combat unit greatly distressed him and demanded another medical test until his request was fulfilled. He immediately became a member of the army and returned to the kibbutz, and immediately began to take root in society and work and received every position offered to him. He was offered activity in the movement, but preferred to work in the kibbutz He was assigned to work on the Sinai front and then to the Golan Heights, and the next day he was able to visit the house a few hours later. In the battle, the battalion commander was wounded and Yuval took the tank out of the line of fire and helped evacuate the injured commander. The commander of the commando unit who was in the area took command of the battalion. In the battle against the Syrian posts, the cannon of the tank is silenced, and then in order to activate the machine gun, the commander took the upper half of his body, was hit and fell. Yuval continued to operate the machine gun but was also hit, fell into the tank and there he died. It was at the Sir-a-Deeb post on the fifth day of the battles, on the 9th of June 1967. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Amir, and his friends erected a monument in his memory. His kibbutz issued a pamphlet in his memory on the anniversary of his death.
