Belvin, Avner
Avner, son of Yehudit and Yosef Belvin, was born in 1927 in Haifa. His father was murdered by the Arabs in 1938 and he grew up and was educated in the home of his grandparents. From the age of 16, he enlisted in the British Navy, raising his real age and serving for two years, aspiring to study naval knowledge in order to use it in the future in the Israeli navy for the establishment of a free Jewish state. In the War of Independence, however, land fighters were needed and Avner served in the “Portzim” battalion in the Harel Brigade. On 3 Sivan, 10 June 1948, he fell near Kiryat Anavim and was buried in Sheikh Bader A. On 10.9.1950 he was transferred to the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
