Belsky, Sarah (“Hemda”)


Daughter of Esther and Chaim Eliahu. She was born in Tel Aviv on October 8, 1929, and studied at the “HaCarmel” school, and after completing her elementary studies she went to Kibbutz Ein Hashofet, where she worked in a cotton factory to help the agriculture. The family later joined the Lehi underground and showed great activity and dedication. During her spare time she read and wrote stories and poems. On November 12, 1947, about two weeks before the United Nations General Assembly decided to partition Eretz Israel and establish a Jewish state in part of the country, as part of a training course in one of the Raanana orchards, the orchard was surrounded by British forces, Five of them, Sarah among them. She was laid to rest at Nahalat Yitzhak cemetery near Tel Aviv. Her name was immortalized in the book “Unknown Soldiers” and in the newspaper “Youth Front”.
