Behar, Mordechai Meron

Son of Avraham and Rachel, a Holocaust survivor who immigrated to Israel in 1948. Born on December 9, 1952, in Kfar Saba. Roni, as his friends called him, grew up in Ramat Gan where he graduated from the Yahalom and Dvir schools. He was a good student and an excellent athlete – and especially excelled in the basketball game. He was a devoted son, caring for his parents and loyal friend. Roni, who especially liked agriculture, planned to study agricultural machinery after completing his army service. Roni joined the IDF in mid-November 1970 and as a member of the “Raham” nucleus, volunteered to serve in the Nahal Brigade. As part of his service, he underwent professional courses in various corps, including completing a course for purification and evacuation, a course for MacKAF operators, and was even certified as a gunner for a moving gun. He was a good and disciplined soldier, who was respected by his commanders and friends. On the 16th of Elul 5703 (September 16, 1973), Mordecai Meron fell in the line of duty and was put to rest in the military fighting house in Kiryat Shaul .
