Becker, Hanoch (Henich)

Hanoch, son of Batsheva and Baruch Becker, was born on June 25, 1926, in Sniatyn, a small town on the border between Poland and Romania. He was active in the first combat unit and was one of the first to move to the Old City on November 29, 1947. In one of the battles he was wounded in the leg and even though he was temporarily discharged from duty, on the morning of the 14th of Nisan, on the eve of Passover 5708 (April 23, 1948), after a night of constant and alert shooting, he was in charge of the most extreme position near the enemy positions. When he went to his commandant to report on the night’s activities and battles, the enemy snatched him and he knelt down and fell on the spot. Hanoch was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Sanhedria.
