Baumgarten, Menachem (Leopold)


Son of Zvi (Herman). He was born in 1923 in the city of Boitheofen, Austria. Immigrated to Eretz Israel in a youth group in 1939 and was transferred to Kibbutz Tel Yosef in the Jezreel Valley. After the outbreak of World War II, he volunteered for the British Army before completing his training period in the kibbutz and was attached to the Hebrew Transport Unit. 462. On May 1, 1943, he was among the hundred and forty members of his unit, on the ship “Arinapura”, which was hit by German bombers. His burial place is unknown.
