Barur, Eitan-Meir


Ben-Segula and Dr. Yitzhak Hakohen (a teacher at the Reali School in Haifa), was born on 17.12.1927 in Haifa. With the outbreak of the War of Independence following the UN General Assembly resolution, And his nights between studies and defense in the lower city. After about a month he enlisted in full service in the “Carmeli” brigade and went on combat operations in the valley and the Galilee. He took part in the battles in the Mishmar Hayarden area, in order to block Syrian attempts to break into Rosh Pina. According to his friends and commander, he excelled bravely and was offered a medal of distinction. On the 16th of Tammuz 5708 (July 16, 1948), in his last position, at a forward post in Khirbet Yarda, he stood up against the Syrians, who approached up to several meters and threw back two hand grenades before they exploded. His body was not identified, and it was assumed that he was brought to Israel’s Tomb in Rosh Pina with IDF casualties, anonymously.
