Baruch, Yigal


Yigal ben Avraham and Berta, was born onthe 8th of Tamuz, June 26th, 1958 in Jerusalem. In July 1976 he was drafted into the IDF and volunteered for a pilot course. Ten months later he was transferred, at his request, to a combat unit. He was sent to an officers’ course and participated in the Operation Litani. After completing the course, he was assigned to the Infantry, and as a commander in the IDF he was assigned to establish a post in Lebanon, which, according to his commander, was a magnificent outpost. Yigal was distinguished by having a warm relationship with his subordinates. Yigal loved his work in the army and expressed to his commander his satisfaction with his job and his willingness to continue to serve the army in every task and role that would be required. On the 3rd of Elul, September 5, 1978, Yigal fell in the line of duty and was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, leaving behind his parents and brothers. The unit commander wrote in a letter of condolence to the family: “Lieutenant Yigal was a soldier a responsible and disciplined officer. Was loved by both his soldiers and his commanders.
