Baruch, David

Son of Malka and Moshe, was born on September 3, 1926, in Adorno, Turkey. He was educated in Jewish and general education and studied frameworks. In 1943 he immigrated to Israel, spent two years in a youth company on Kibbutz Givat Haim and worked in a tractor and a frame. He trained in Gadna, moved to the Palmach and served two and a half years in Mishmar on the Syrian border in Hulata and then at Beit Hashita. After his release he worked for several months in Tel Aviv, where his brother lived. After the UN General Assembly decided to partition the country, when the War of Independence broke out, he immediately returned to service in the Palmach, and was eager to fight for the Jewish state until victory. David graduated from paramedics and wireless courses. He took part in escorting convoys to Jerusalem and participated in many difficult battles. When the transport ceased, he remained in Jerusalem and continued to serve as a combat medic. In the Battle of Katamon on April 28, 1948, he was seriously wounded in the hand and stomach. At the hospital, he was still able to hear about the State of Israel, but the doctors’ efforts to save him failed despite his having survived three operations. David died of his wounds on the 21st of Iyar 5708 (May 30, 1948) and was buried in Sheikh Bader Aleph. On the 28th of Elul 5710 (10.9.1950) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
