Barnea, Noam (Michael)

Barnea, Noam (Michael)

Son of Ada and Aaron, was born in Brussels, Belgium on June 16, 1977, a younger brother to Dana and Alon, and his parents stayed in Brussels on a public mission, from which he returned to Israel at the age of 1. Noam was a wonderful child from the day he opened His eyes were smiling and beautiful, as if he had told his parents, “This is the most wonderful gift your mission in Europe has given you.” His mother called him “a child of the sun,” as an expression of energy and light to his parents’ life. And watched with great interest every flower and lizard, motivated to precede them all, and reach first for the next destination. A tour of the Upper Galilee channels, when the guide told about the characteristics of the many species of trees in the area, Noam asked to say something about a tree, and to the astonishment of all the members of the group he recited the song of Datia Ben Dor – “What is it like to be a tree? “His studies began at the Sirkin Elementary School in Holon, a child developed for his age, who learned quickly and without any difficulty, and during breaks he would release the energy he had accumulated in the classroom. A pile of children in the yard slept pleasantly. He is at the center of every event, and his mischief knows no bounds. Your child becomes a gang leader. “At first the parents rejected the idea, but after a while they answered him and Noam was accepted into the gifted class of the AD Gordon school in Holon, and wherever he went, Noam also fit in quickly and easily. Noam received advanced tools for his own way: methods of self-employment, ways of thinking and intellectual independence, and he participated in various enrichment classes – chess, tennis, creative writing, sports, etc. Noam continued to the Ayalon High School in Holon. In addition to his studies at the school, he was active in school initiatives and also in the March youth movement. He was a tour guide for the Scouts movement in Holon, took part in a tour of the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel, played beach volleyball, rappelling, danced and spent time with his many friends, and developed into a beautiful young man with a great passion for life. His sense of justice is clear and sharp and sensitive to others. Especially the weak, the needy and the animals, very developed, sharp-minded, with a phenomenal memory, charisma, mischief, humor, loyalty and willingness to sacrifice without question, walking with his truth to the end, , ‘Does not make an account’ to anyone, despises ranks and hierarchy, and has an overwhelming love ability. In the family home, the political reality surrounding them is closely monitored, and the family members find themselves mobilized for demonstrations in the region and for compromise and co-existence with the Palestinians. In Noam’s life burst, there is also a respectable place for these expressions. He took a stand in the movement and at school, argued and did not give up. At the age of sixteen, he was chosen to participate as a member of the “Young Ambassadors” delegation initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education. The delegation spreads throughout the United States. Noam appears in dozens of schools in the southwestern United States, in Tulsa and San Antonio. He tells about Israel and the significance of being a young man in Israel; And after he returned from school for a long time, and the advice given him by his teachers to postpone the exams , He did not give up and decided to take all the exams he had marked(Most of them at the level of five units), and again his extraordinary ability to focus and delve into it, and in the school he left behind deep friendships and great affection for friends, teachers and even the principal of the school. Noam enlisted in the IDF, volunteered for an aviation course but was disqualified after the checks. In the wake of his older brother, he also asked to be admitted to a bomb disposal unit, a prestigious unit in the Israel Defense Forces, and he became a fighter in a bomb disposal unit, and Noam was very proud and motivated. Noam completed his mandatory service in the Israel Defense Forces and began his permanent service. During this period, the ups and downs of Lebanon became more frequent, and the time between them grew shorter. At home the concern grew, the parents were apprehensive about the implicit information about the dangers lurking in southern Lebanon, but Noam said it clearly and left no room for appeal: “You educated us to volunteer and to tell the truth, I’ll make friends, so few at this time? Noam arrives, throws up his backpack and hides the weapon, devours the food his mother prepared for him and immediately runs to the beach, to play volleyball with his friends, and to devote himself to the feeling of lack of concern in the center of the country. “What, I will waste my vacation on rest?” He would reply to his mother, who was worried about her reproach. On Passover, Noam came home for a short vacation. The IDF allowed him to participate in a 10-day preparatory course for the psychometric exam (the excellent results of which came home two weeks after his fall.) Noam began to prepare himself for the big jump after completing his service in the IDF – the largest trip in the world. His eyes sparkled for the most wonderful summer of his life. The last incursion into Lebanon took place about two weeks before the liberation. He did not owe it, but he wanted to go up to pay back the debt to the IDF, which enabled him to participate in the psychometric exam preparation course, and also felt a moral obligation to accompany the inexperienced young team and take responsibility for the operational activity. (12.4.1999), at 16:29, Noam fell during an operational operation in Lebanon, just five days before the end of his permanent service contract and his release from the IDF. The team was asked to check the scene of IEDs that exploded during the opening of a road a few days earlier near the Beaufort outpost. The force was unaware of the fact that on the way to the arena, a few dozen meters from the post, Hezbollah operatives placed bombs under cover of darkness. Noam, who assumed command of the mission, stopped shortly before his fall and withdrew a group of soldiers who were behind him, thus preventing a major disaster. He wore a button on his lapel that his mother had given him before he left: “To get out of Lebanon.” He was twenty-one years old when he fell. Sergeant Noam Barnea was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Holon. Survived by his parents, brother and sister. His family and the Ayalon School, where Noam studied, held a number of activities to commemorate his name, including publishing a newspaper in his memory in the school and holding an evening in his memory. From the words that were said and written about Noam after his death, the image of a young man with an exceptional personality emerges in its qualities. Lieutenant Colonel Moshe, commander of the unit, writes about him: “… Noam was gifted with many qualities that helped him to be a dominant figure in the company and the entire unit, including charisma, personal ability, perfection and self-confidence. And in his determination to carry out the tasks that were imposed upon himTo the unit and to him, while showing great responsibility. It was not easy to be Noam’s commander, since as a person and combatant Noam was a highly developed critic, and he was not ashamed to say even when things did not please his commanders and friends. Precisely for this reason, and because he demanded much of himself, I learned to appreciate Noam. Eliyahu Assaf, principal of the Ayalon School, says: “I knew Noam all along, even though I was not his teacher. Noam was one of the most prominent students in the school, mainly because of his great social involvement. Noam led the group of youth counselors and was very active in the editorial board of the school newspaper. You could say that in every activity he took part in, he was among the leaders. Noam studied in the gifted class and was a good student, courteous and wise. A flower among flowers. “Tzila Shemesh, the educator of the gifted class at the Ayalon School, eulogized him on the day of the burial:” How do you mourn you, Noam, without it sounding like a recommendation ?! It was the conscience of all of us that you were beautiful, wise, brave, a gifted student. When everyone was sharing you said yours, and loudly. When others chose comfort you chose the challenge. You were a sort of anarchist with a national duty, who fought for justice when others fought for the viability (or still fighting out of a convention of stupidity) that on the annual trip you had to climb a cliff no higher than it. How do you embarrass Noam without hearing it from a joke ?! You can say ‘the best of our children’, you can say ‘beautiful hair and title’ and you can shout – ‘see land because we spend very much.’ Noam’s mother and father Please allow me to be a partner in the great love, the terrible pain. “Dr. Shmuel Rafael, Noam’s teacher of literature and expression at the Ayalon School, writes in a letter to his parents:” The image of the sharp, witty, “Ofir Ronen, a classmate and tourist, tells of Noam:” In ninth grade, in tour groups, each of us had a nickname of his own, we were a very energetic group, and the instructor, my uncle, When my uncle saw that he was beginning to lose the team in advance, he would shout, ‘Noam, stop!’ Even if he did not see who led, it was clear that in order to stop the group, Ic stop Noam. Since nicknamed. Join us in eleventh grade pleasant trip to Sinai. He taught us all the words of the Sea of Shibulim, and we performed before the amazed Bedouin. The peak of the hike was the climb up Umm Sumer, a hard day-long climb to a spot from which you could see the Gulf of Suez. Noam took the lead, I was behind him. The rumor that on the same trip Noam climbed all the way to the top of the Um guard without panting at all, no one can verify that on all the trips we saw Noam only from the back. “On the anniversary of the fall of Noam, his father, Aharon, told him the following story: He is about to return from the summer camp tonight, go and bring him with the car. The child must have died of exhaustion. ‘ So is the worried mother. ‘when does he get back?’ You know. Sometime, close to nineteen at night. ‘ I’m going to the traffic tribe. From the corner of the street I can already see the trucks, which have been unloading equipment again. where is the boy? Outside, a commotion. Parents come to collect the tired heroes. The cars absorb the packs, the sleeping bags and the personal equipment. The boys and girls land in the waiting parent’s car and almost immediately fall asleep. And our Noam? At the top of one of the trucks I notice him. Disassembled equipment. He is a tangle of activity, working like a frenzy, giving instructions and mobilizing joint efforts, with the required effort greater than his powers. He does not see me, all focused on the work, alert asspring. He draws from where he is, and he remains to finish the job, because … because … someone has to do it, because you must not abandon public property because you have assumed responsibility and you do not run away from it, no matter what. For years I remembered this picture of Noam on the unloading truck, waiting for hours to finish the job. In my mind the diabolical thought never crossed my mind that I would ever have to write about it and to rely on this memory to characterize my son as part of a kind of endless separation from such a promising and so unfulfilled life. “
