Barnas, Shimon

Shimon, son of Rene and Jacob, was born on May 24, 1954 in Petah Tikva. He was drafted into the IDF in mid-May 1973, and was assigned to the IAF. After basic training and after completing a driver’s course, he was assigned to the unit as a truck driver. On the 18th of Nissan 5734 (18.4.1974), Shimon fell during his service. He died in a road accident in the Ovdat antiquities area in the Negev. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He was survived by a father, a mother, two brothers and a sister. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Shimon was an outstanding soldier in his platoon, a quiet, modest soldier with all the soldiers in the unit.”
