Baranovsky, Baruch


Baruch, son of Sarah and Menachem Baranovsky, was born on August 30, 1923, in the city of Kukla, Cyprus, where his parents, immigrants from Russia, worked in agriculture. They immigrated to Israel in 1926 and settled in Moshav Beit Shearim and later in Moshav HaPoel Hamizrachi in Sde Ya’akov in the western Jezreel Valley. Baruch attended school in Ramat Yishai (Jeddah) and later in Sde Ya’akov. Baruch was faithful to the principles of Torah and work. When he was about 19-20 years old, Baruch joined the Haganah and faithfully fulfilled his duties. Baruch served in the Coast Guard, the Palmach, and the Golani Brigade, where he participated in the battles of Mishmar Ha’emek and the occupation of the German colonies in the area, Waldheim and Bethlehem. On the 11th of Iyar 5708 (May 20, 1948) he fell in the defense of Degania Bet and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Degania Bet.
