Barak (Balasbalag), Yoav
Yoav, son of Miriam and Nathan, was born on the 14th of Av 5746 (14.8.1946) in the midst of the riots that preceded the battles of the War of Independence. He studied at the David Yellin Elementary School in Haifa and at the vocational high school in the secondary school, where he continued to study at the Ruppin Midreshet, where Yoav was serious, extremely quiet and modest. All that he did was done only after serious consideration, and the values of justice and truth were principles that must be fulfilled daily, and he preferred to give up what he desired, if it was necessary to give up his principles. Although raised and educated in the city, he was in love with nature and agriculture. As a boy and as a boy he traveled extensively around the country and especially liked to travel in the Carmel Forest, where he learned to know the vegetation and all the corners of grace. He also liked to join his father in his job as the man in charge of an orchard around Haifa. Yoav was drafted into the IDF at the end of January 1965 and was assigned to the Nahal Brigade as part of the “Psagot” core. After completing basic training and having spent a short time in one of the kibbutzim, he was sent to a course for squad commanders. Although he did not see himself as a commander of people and was not particularly enthusiastic about military service, he completed the course with great success. After his death, he wrote: “From the very first day we learned that we were dealing with an unusual guy.
