Bar, Uri (Steposh)


The only son of Julia and Moshe was born on 19.2.1930 in Krakow, Poland, His first days in the country were spent in the Teheran Children’s camp at the Jerusalem study farm. He was chosen to be educated in Degania Aleph. He studied at the school from sixth grade until the end of the 11th grade, managed to acclimatize to his new surroundings, excelled in his studies and played the accordion, loved to read. He participated in the defense of the place as a machine gunner in the positions against the Syrian tanks that tried to break into the yard of the farm. While he was operating in a forward position, was hit by an enemy shell and fell on the 9th of Iyar 5708 (May 18, 1948). Uri was brought to rest in the cemetery in Degania Aleph. His parents arrived in Israel after his death. His memory was mentioned in the book “Sa’ar on Sufa Day” (in memory of the fallen of Degania Alef).
