Bar-Tikva, Eli Elyakim


Son of Rachel and Yehuda Tzvi, was born on July 2, 1958, in Rehovot. As a child, his family moved to Ramat Hasharon. He studied at the elementary school in Ramat Hasharon and then moved to the high school in Neve-Magen and completed his studies in a biological track. As a child, Eli underwent difficult years as a result of complications from flu. He was sent to the United States for medical treatment, and Eli’s willpower helped him cope with the illness, overcome it, and realize his dream of enlisting in the IDF and being accepted into an aviation course. In October 1976 he enlisted and was sent to an aviation course. After about a year and a half he moved to serve in the Armored Corps, with the intention of returning to the Air Force after the officers’ course. In February 1979, Eli completed his officer training course and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel, and on the night of the 11th of Iyar 5739 (May 8, 1979) he went with his unit to a fire management, assault and assault exercise in the Golan Heights. Eli was brought to the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul and left behind his parents and a sister, who wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “Eli arrived at the unit as a relatively veteran soldier who chose this difficult route from a large number of more convenient and easier options.
