At the conclusion of the induction stage, he returned to Training Base 6 for completion of the course, two weeks before the end of the course, on 23 September 2008, he died at the age of 20. Avihai was laid to rest in the Kiryat Shaul military cemetery, “Avihai tell me, ‘What are you doing with a friend like you?’ … Everyone has a different memory from you. We sit and reminisce about things that happened only yesterday, a day ago, a month ago. Small memories that are meaningless in another situation, another day, suddenly get such a different and difficult meaning today. Everyone who remembers wants to be back in that moment, in the same memory, if only? Just for a moment. You always said what you wanted and what you thought, even your commanding officer, was that at the end of the completion you had to get the rank of lieutenant colonel, and you always expressed your opinion in a loud voice and insisted that others also be able to speak to me You could not tell if you were serious or not, such a joker, and with this cynicism and this witty sense of humor you always did everything, whatever they asked you to do, And even when you wore this face you knew that you would do everything perfectly, because you can always count on you. In the rain, you always noticed that someone had a sagging or depressed face, and you would ask with sensitivity about the well-being of the same person, the family and we continue with space, with this unbearable feeling of helplessness, longing, pain. We waited for someone to pinch us, kick us, yell, and just wake up from this terrible dream, the crying continued to go out of control and we still do not digest anything, only the sight of the empty bed, the locker and the chair in the classroom. The smart questions in class now? Who would make everyone laugh? And who would fight for quiet so that the same person could have a word? Who will ask for our safety when we are in a bad mood? Nothing, no one can replace you with what you were for us. We all hope that you will suddenly appear and only smile, and we will all breathe freely, and this distress, the suffocation belt around us will be released. Avichai, your memory continues to reverberate in all of us. We know how much you loved Yizhar Ashdot and like Bashir, I wish you were ‘a touch away from here’. “
