Son of Esther and Eliahu, was born on May 30, 1959 in Jerusalem. Chanan was the son of a large family of children, who immigrated from Iraq and settled in Jerusalem. Chanan grew up in Jerusalem. He completed his high school studies in a humanitarian track at the Yemin-Orde Youth Village. From an early age he stood out in his independent character and in his devotion to the values ​​he believed in. Chanan persisted in his studies, loved experimenting and aspired to achieve perfection. In August 1977, Chanan enlisted in the IDF, underwent basic training, completed his career as a soldier in infantry and advanced to the rank of corporal. chanan was sent to a field security course and at the end of that year he rose to the rank of sergeant. His intelligence and ambitious nature helped Chanan continue to advance. In October 1979, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant, and was offered a career in the regular army, and in August 1980, Chanan took up the rank of lieutenant colonel and was sent to an officers’ course. He completed the course successfully and rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel, and his commanders noted him as a “motivated young officer who was willing to learn.” On that day he married and built his home in Rishon LeZion. In the field in which he operated, the driver lost control of the steering wheel and the car that Chanan was riding in overturned. Chanan died in an accident and is 24 years old. Chanan was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. He left behind a wife, mother, three brothers and six sisters. After his death he was promoted to lieutenant. The commander of his unit wrote about him in a letter of condolence to his family: “I knew him from the beginning of his service in my unit, and I recognized his right to serve as a soldier and as an officer. His name was immortalized in the She’erit Yisrael synagogue in Jerusalem.
