Bar-Am, Avraham


Avraham, the only son of Sarah and Jacob Bar-Am, was born on December 11, 1916 in Crimea, Russia to a well-established Zionist family. When he was three years old, he immigrated to Israel with his parents. From the days of his studies at the Technion he was a member of the Haganah and served in every position. Avraham was a counselor in the Ha – Po’el troop. He took part in the aliyah maneuvers to Hanita, Alonim and more, as well as the immigration of illegal immigrants. During the 1936 riots he Avraham was a guard in the Carmel Forests and was one of their defenders. He trained students of the Technion, members of the National Guard and other youth groups in weaponry, and was appointed commander of a platoon. Avraham volunteered to accompany his unit to escort a convoy. On the first of Shevat,(14.12.1947), on the way to Ben-Shemen, after a difficult battle with Arab gangs and soldiers of the Arab Legion, he fell in Beit-Nabala and was brought to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak. He left behind a wife and a one-year-old child. After his fall, he was promoted to lieutenant.
