Banea, Maoz


Son of Shraga and Chaya. He was born on 12 April 1957 in Jerusalem. He studied at the elementary school in Beit Hanan and graduated from the technical high school in Yavne. He was a diligent student, alert and friendly. Always surrounded by friends and involved in all social activities at school. He loved his teachers and friends. They say that Maoz was pursuing justice and that he could never stand by when he believed that one of his friends was being discriminated against. He was a member of the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed movement in Rishon Letzion, and in this framework he practiced judo and karate. He read books and for a certain period of time served as a librarian in the school library. One of his hobbies was engraving and marveling at creating delicate metal works. Maoz was a friendly and cheerful fellow. On the one hand he wanted to be at the center of his friends’ interest and on the other liked to help others. Admired his brother and sister, and always wanted to do good deeds so that his family would be proud of him. Maintained close ties with his family and was a devoted son to his parents. During the Yom Kippur War, he volunteered to work as a nurse in Kaplan Hospital and served as a substitute teacher at a school in Holon. Maoz was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in March 1975. He was sent to serve on the “Dabur” ship on May 26, 1975. He was killed at the time of his service, The cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem left behind his parents, two brothers and a sister.
