Balley, Ziv
Ziv, son of Aliza and Eliyahu Balley, was born on September 25, 1977 in Kfar Saba. In February 1996, Ziv joined the IDF and was identified as Unit 8200 – the Central Intelligence Unit’s Central Intelligence Unit. He completed a course in Logistics and was assigned to the 35th Brigade of the 101st Battalion. After completing his discharge, Ziv began working for the General Security Service while studying for a BA in Middle Eastern and African History at Tel Aviv University. When the Second Lebanon War began, Ziv recruited for reserve duty and joined his unit – Paratroopers Brigade North. On the night of August 5, 2006, his unit was transferred from the headquarters to the northern border for the purpose of renewing supplies and equipment. When they arrived at the destination, Ziv and his comrades searched for a shaded place to rest until the order to enter Lebanon with supplies and equipment was received. The members of the unit were found under a tree at the entrance to the cemetery on Kibbutz Kfar Giladi. On August 6, 2006, a Katyusha rocket fired by Hezbollah found them hit directly. Ziv was killed on the spot. He was twenty-nine years old when he fell. He was laid to rest in the Kfar Saba military cemetery. Survived by his parents and sister. After his death he was promoted to the rank of sergeant.
