Bakelsch, Eliezer
Son of Moshe and Shoshana. He was born on May 5, 1947 in Edmond, Austria. His family immigrated to Israel in 1948. He attended the “Deganya” elementary school in the Carmel region, where he lives. One of his teachers at the school wrote about him: “He was polite and modest and fit in well with the class, and he was a good friend and willing to help others. Immediately after graduating from elementary school, he went to work and worked as an agricultural mechanic. He loved the work and the tools and devoted much of his time to them. He liked to drive the heavy heavy tractor and was holding the steering wheel safely, with his strong and loyal hands. He was also a member of the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed movement in the Carmel group. He was very active in the movement, took part in his branch, and did not miss an evening of entertainment, or any activity related to the branch. All this he did with joy and joy. When his friends planned to go out for a soccer game on Saturday, he would say, “I’m going out for a walk at seven,” because he loved nature and the trips; And the next day at 7 the soccer fans would also appear, because the guys simply preferred to go out with Eliezer and get acquainted with the soccer game. When he left, he had no permanent goal, because “what does it matter?” Eliezer would say, “We will reach a Yaffa place in the end.” Carmel has been “deaf” more than once and has always been re-impressed by its beauty and the beauty of the view from it. Every day, after exhausting work, he used to practice himself by lifting weights, and on Saturdays he went for a little swim in the sea, or for a night bathing in the sea, in Kfar Galim. After swimming he would run a few miles along the beach. He also participated in the crossing of the Sea of Galilee and the four-day marches. At the end of September 1965, Eliezer was drafted into the IDF and assigned to the Nahal Brigade. Together with his group, he was a member of the “Kadesh” nucleus. At Yiftach, he worked in the field and went to basic training. At the end of the course, the new commanders were assigned to various bases in the Nahal Brigade, and Eliezer remained in the brigade commander’s school as a guide for the next graduating class and spent a year there as a guide for a period of one year. , After members of the Battle of Um-Katef told the story of the battle, everyone realized what his role in the operation was: After the war he was appointed commander of a platoon, first in Ashdot Yaakov and then in Ein Gev. He planned to volunteer for the regular army, but when he was about to be released he was hired as a mechanic in the military industry. He decided to stay in Tirat Hacarmel, near his parents, because he was very close to them, but Eliezer did not accept the situation and promised that he would not do combat duty, but would serve as a mechanic in the navy. (July 7, 1970), was killed while carrying out his duties. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Haifa. A book in his memory bearing the name “Eliezer” was published after they fell; The family established a library in his memory at the Agudath Israel yeshiva in Tirat Hacarmel, which also serves as a synagogue.
