Badri, Jacob

Son of Hela and Badri, was born on the 14th of Sivan 5714 (14.6.1954) in Be’er Sheva. Yaakov began his studies at the Netaim School, continuing at a comprehensive school and completing his tenth grade in an external school. Jacob was usually responsible and calm in nature, but in two cases he would lose his temper. One when injustice was done to someone, and the other – everything related to the Hapoel group in Be’er Sheva. Jacob was very attached to his family, and a good friend who was always ready to help. In August 1972, Yaakov enlisted in the IDF and served in the Armored Corps, where he served as a tank gunner, a tank driver and a lieutenant, specializing in all tank subjects. After completing his army service, Yaakov married and found his livelihood as a manager of the emergency warehouses of MDA. Beer Sheva. When the Peace for Galilee War broke out, Yaakov was drafted into reserve duty. In October 1983, he was again recruited to reserve duty and was assigned to guard terrorists in Lebanon. On November 4, 1983, terrorists planted a car bomb in the house of the military government in Tire. In the explosion, dozens of soldiers were killed and wounded. Among those killed was Yaakov. He was 29 years old when he died. Yaakov was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Be’er Sheva. He left behind a pregnant wife, daughter, parents and sister. Seven months after his death his son was born, and he bears his name. In a letter of condolence to Defense Minister Moshe Arens, Defense Minister Moshe Arens said: “Jacob fell in Tire, Lebanon, when a car bomb exploded near the government building, and he was an excellent soldier and a model member. The commander of his unit wrote to his family: “Yaakov served in the unit since its establishment in 1975. During his service he was discovered as a loyal friend and crony, and was loved by his friends. After the fall of Yaakov and his comrades, the soldiers and battalion commanders joined the organization called “Shahaf”. The association established a memorial site in the Eshtaol forest, and each year a memorial ceremony is held for the fallen.
