Bachar, Yosef (Yossi)
Son of-Sarah and Benjamin, was born on 19 August 1953. He completed elementary school in Ashkelon and continued to study for three years at the “Mapan” and “Ort” schools in his city. Prior to his enlistment, he worked for several months as a locksmith in various workshops in the city. Yosef joined the IDF in early October 1971, and after basic training and a driving course he was placed in the supply force, during which Yossi underwent additional courses, including advanced drivers and heavy truck drivers. His commanders greatly appreciated the manner in which he fulfilled his duties and elevated him to the rank of First Sergeant. Joseph took part in the Yom Kippur War and proudly wore the war signal. When his time comes to be released from compulsory service, his certificate of release states: “A good soldier fulfills his duty to satisfaction.” In mid-October 1974, Yossi was released from regular service. He married and the couple had two sons and a daughter. He found his livelihood as a driver in a transport company. On April 24, 1985, during his reserve service, St.-Sgt. Yosef fell during his service and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Ashkelon. He left a wife, two sons, a daughter and parents. In his letter of condolence to the family, his commander wrote: “Yosef was a devoted and disciplined soldier and performed all the tasks entrusted to him with great dedication, volunteering to perform missions and performing all his duties with honors”
