Babian, David

Babian, David

Son of Dalia and Shlomo, he was born on November 15, 1962 in Jerusalem. David began his studies at the Moriah State religious elementary school, and completed them successfully. He continued to study at the “Youth Village” high school in Beit Vegan, in the printing and art track. Before his enlistment in the IDF, David worked at the Hadassah Hospital in Ein Kerem. Hhe was recruited in early 1981, and was sent to serve in the IAF. “We appreciated and honored your son for the responsibility and dedication he showed, for the precision with which he acted and for the initiative he took in all kinds of situations. He took care of his team, reassuring them. The innocent smile was always on his face, and his special sense of humor brought morale to everyone who was with him. David was able to find the golden path between strict observance of the commandments and his duties as a soldier, and he was a courageous, fearless fighter.” Throughout his time in Lebanon during the Peace for Galilee War, David occasionally went home for vacations, but never shared his experiences with his family. He wrote to his family and calmed the parents, wrote postcards, and sent peace deployments at every opportunity he had in the battle to capture the Beirut airport. David was killed in the course of his duty on the 12th of Av, 5742 (1.8.1982), and was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. He left behind his parents, brothers and sisters. In 1984 a brother was born to David and they named him Achikam. His family established a scholarship fund in his name.
