Babi, Eli

Son of Haim and Ora. He was born on May 9, 1956 in Haifa, the eldest son of a well-to-do family. Shortly before his birth, his family settled in Moshav Yagel, near Lod. He studied at the Bnei Atarot School and was a diligent student. Despite his quiet and introverted nature, he was able to acquire the sympathy of his classmates and teachers for his gentleness and willingness to help others at all times. When he finished elementary school, he started working in the garage so he could help support his family. In the meantime, he studied automotive mechanics at the Amal vocational school in Rehovot. His ingenuity, his seriousness and his dedication to work were to discover his ability in the mechanical and electrical professions. When he reached the age of 18, in April 1974, he was drafted into the army and assigned to the engineering corps. He had served him only a few months, but even in this period he impressed his commanders with his quiet, kindly and disciplined nature. Here, too, he was fond of his new friends and commanders. On the 28th of Elul 5734 (August 28, 1974) he fell to me during his service, was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul and left behind his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
