Azzam, Ramzi
Son of Zadaga and Mustaav. Ramzi was born in Israel on April 1, 1943. Was an eldest son with seven brothers and sisters. He received his education at an elementary school in the village of Mughar and graduated from a vocational high school in Nazareth, on a carpentry track. His fondness for sport in general, and especially for the sea, has been great since his youth. On May 8, 1961, Ramzi enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for a minority unit, after which he sought to be released, as a result of his marriage and the birth of his daughter, he felt that he needed to devote more time at home. He apparently found his job at the Border Police, for he preferred to stay at the base and go out for important activity rather than going home. His commanders say that he was a diligent and active man, and volunteered first for every activity. Ramzi’s outstanding qualities were discipline, courage and dedication to his work. On June 14, 1969, Sgt. Shani Ramzi served as the commander of a reconnaissance team that was moving along the Jordanian border near Kibbutz Maoz Haim. The tour began at 05:30, and a short time later a fire opened from Jordan towards the force. Ramzi grabbed the first bundle and was killed on the spot. Ramsay was twenty-six years old when he fell. He was buried in the cemetery in Mghar. After his fall, Ramzi was awarded the Police Medal of Honor.
