Azuz, Asher
Asher, son of Batsheva and Yosef Azuz, was born on 27.4.1931 in Jerusalem, completed elementary school and worked in his father’s bakery, and was a member of Hanoar Haoved, and at the outbreak of the War of Independence he was recruited with the youth in Gadna. Once, when his father demanded that he go to the baking oven and work, he replied, “I am going to work on something more essential than the bread.” He meant fortifications. Asher was killed on 4 Sivan, June 11, 1948, while working in fortifications at Menorah during the bombardment, half an hour before the cease-fire came into effect. He was buried in Sheik-Badr Aleph and on 28 Elul 5710 (10.9.1950) was transferred to eternal rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
