Azulay, Meir


Son of Miriam and Joseph, was born in 1928 in the city of Saffro, in French Morocco. He studied in the “cheder” and continued to study at the “Kol Israel Haverim” school. After graduating he worked in carpentry. Like the other members of his community, he had a longing for redemption. In the gospel of the War of Independence, which came to North Africa, he saw a personal call to him to go out and take part in it. His parents objected, but he insisted. On July 17, 1948, he immigrated to Israel as a member of the “Gahal” Brigade and was attached to the Negev Brigade in the Negev, where he became fond of his comrades and commanders, and excelled as a soldier in initiative and courage. On December 7, 1948, and was buried in Ruhama. On the 2nd of Sivan 5705 (18.5.1950) he was transferred to the eternal rest of the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
