Azulay, Max


Son of Rachel and Solomon, was born on April 24, 1954 in Casablanca, Morocco. When he was eight, his family immigrated to Israel and settled in Ashdod. Max studied at the Geulim Elementary School and later at the A – high school. During his studies, Max was active in the Betar youth movement, guiding youth in a distressed neighborhood, and helping young boys to rehabilitate themselves, and during his free time and vacations, Max went to work to pay for his studies and not to burden his parents. In the spring of 1972, he was assigned to the Armored Corps and participated in the battles of the Yom Kippur War and returned safely to his family. He married and had three children. Max raised them and blessed them with great devotion. When the Peace for Galilee War broke out and Max was not drafted, he did not calm down and went himself to report to his unit. He took part in battles in the eastern sector of Lebanon and also returned home safely. In October 1983 Max was called up for reserve duty and was sent to Lebanon again. On November 4, 1983, a car bomb exploded next to the military government building in the city of Tire. Among those killed was Max. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Ashdod. He left behind a wife and three sons, parents, brothers and sisters. His parents donated religious books to the synagogue in his neighborhood
