Azaren, Morris
Morris, son of Allegra and Nissim, was born on February 12, 1954, in Casablanca, Morocco, where he immigrated to Israel in 1958. He completed his studies at the Rambam Elementary School in Ashdod and then studied In a religious high school, in the clerkship track. After two years of study at this school, he began to work as a customs agent in Ashdod port. Morris was a cheerful, good-hearted guy. He set up a wide circle of friends with whom he had close ties and shared them with his plans and thoughts. He used to pose challenges to him that sometimes seemed more difficult than he could, but with his strong will he overcame the obstacles and looked with satisfaction and pride at his successes. Morris had the qualities of a born leader. He concentrated his friends around him and always stood at the center of the activities, sketching the way they went, urging and urging social meetings and sports competitions. He never took things for granted. He was curious about the source of the instructions given him and why he should act in this way and not in any other way. He wanted to go down to the depths of things, to discover the reasons behind the decision, and so he would often ask his teachers and his friends questions in those areas he was interested in and wanted to deepen his knowledge. Although he attended high school only two years, the same teachers and students remember him as one of the special characters in the school. Maurice was a member of the Bnei Akiva youth movement and was one of the active members of the movement’s local branch. He was an outstanding athlete, mainly in swimming and basketball, and was a permanent member of the Elizur basketball team. He spent a lot of time dancing, especially folk dances, and was a member of a dance company. Maurice was known for his love of the Land of Israel, its landscapes and its songs. He liked to listen to good old Hebrew songs. He traveled a lot and toured the country, and few of the places he had never set foot in. Mostly to explore the deserts of Judea and Sinai. Morris was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early May 1972. After completing basic training he was trained in a tank battalion in the central sector of the Suez Canal, His unit participated in the battles of the containment and conquest in the Sinai, Maurice was killed on the 15th of Tishrei 5734 (15.10.1973) in a break into the “Chinese farm.” He was laid to rest in the Ashdod cemetery, leaving behind his parents, three brothers and two sisters. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant, and his parents and fellow students set up a monument in his memory at the school where he studied, and a pamphlet containing Chabad’s words was published S the image.
