Aya, Eliav


Eliav, son of Tamar and Saadia, was born on April 19, 1950 in Tel Aviv. He studied at the Moshe Hess Elementary School in Tel Aviv, and then studied for one year at the Technikon School. A lively and life-loving boy was Eliav. At the home of his parents, who came from Yemen, he knew the tradition of the glorious Yemenite Jews, knew celebrations and celebrations, and learned good values. He was handsome, black-haired and dark-eyed, with wisdom and love. He was a diligent student and even when he left the formal curriculum, he continued to buy knowledge and broaden his horizons. He was naturally curious and wanted to know everything new that was revealed to him. Among his friends Eliav was known as a loyal friend, who is not only handsome but also handsome. He helped his friends willingly and brightly, even at the expense of his time and comfort. On Eliav’s humility, one of his friends said: “Eliav the Good and the Man of Truth are always in the dark, there was no trace of greatness and vanity, no sign of snobbish behavior.” He was punctual, careful to keep the rules of the way of the country and always fought for what he thought was right. His main hobbies were singing and singing. His evening voice added to the pleasant atmosphere of his parents’ house on a holiday. Thanks to his mischievousness and lively personality, the success of celebrations and family parties was a success. When he was 15 years old, he began working as an electrician, and for some time before his army service he worked as a farmer in Kibbutz Ma’agan. Eliav was a devoted son to his parents and a brother loyal to his three brothers, and helped them both advice and action. To all his acquaintances he is remembered as a tall, solid, handsome young man. Eliav was drafted into the IDF in mid-May 1968 and volunteered for the “Haruv” reconnaissance unit, after which he was trained in a paratrooper training course, at the end of which he was authorized to wear the wings of a parachutist. He completed his course successfully and was assigned to a parachute infantry unit. He was a model soldier, carried out every task he was assigned impeccably, volunteered to work in times of distress and encouraged the spirit of his friends with a Lev smile and intelligent things. He loved life and loved to spend, but also knew that every citizen of the State of Israel must give his time and energy to his country. In May 1971, after Eliav completed his compulsory service, he was assigned to a reserve unit, and worked as a tractor operator. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, Eliav was called to his unit during the fast of the fast. He was sent to the southern front and for more than two weeks he acted in the braking battles as a company sergeant. Together with his unit, he fought valiantly and fiercely against the Egyptian forces on both sides of the Canal. On October 24, 1973) was hit and killed at the gates of the city of Suez by Egyptian sniper bullets. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by his parents and three brothers. After his fall, he was promoted to First Sergeant. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the unit commander wrote: “We knew Eliav in his great hours and we saw his courage, his courage, his help and his concern for the soldiers of his company, which were expressed in every detail, from food and equipment to support and encouragement to the soldiers who needed it. Eliav was the address for every soldier who had a problem, and Eliav always solved every problem to the satisfaction of the soldiers and the commanders. ” In the memory of their son, Eliav, they donated a Torah scroll to a synagogue in Givatayim and planted a tree in his memory in the forest of the defenders of the Jewish National Fund.
