Axelrod, Nachum (Menachem)

Born in 1929 in Russia or Bessarabia, he grew up in Romania. After World War II he stopped his studies in high school and went to the Zionist youth training program in Baia Mare in northern Transylvania. From there he boarded the Knesset Israel ship in November 1946. He was captured by the British and sent to Cyprus. In the autumn of 1947 he immigrated to Israel, where he lived in the Atlit camp and later in Kiryat Shmuel, and as a free citizen of Tel Aviv, he accepted the call of the homeland. He was attached to a battalion in the Palmach Harel Brigade, participated in operations and accompanied convoys on the way to Jerusalem, and on March 31, 1948, a large convoy was organized near Hulda, delaying the organization of the caravan due to mishaps and mud on the way allowing the Arab forces to organize and block the convoy. In this battle Nahum fell on the 20th of Adar 2, 5708 (March 31, 1948). Nachum was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Hulda.
