Axelrod, Eliyahu


Son of Getzel. He was born in 1897 in Podbulociska, Poland. After the First World War, he moved to Germany, studied upholstery, married and the couple had two children. At the end of 1938 the family immigrated to Palestine. Eliyahu was a member of the Zionist General Workers Organization. At first they lived in Tel Aviv, where Eliyahu was accepted to the ranks of the Haganah, and later moved to a barracks in Nes Tziona. The hut was erected next to the row of houses in the village. On the day they entered the hut, on the 23rd of Shvat, the colony was attacked by Arab rioters. Eliyahu was badly injured and died of his wounds in the hospital on February 16, 1939. Eliyahu was brought to rest in the cemetery in Nahalat Yitzhak. He left a wife, a son and a daughter. His son, Yosef, fell in the War of Independence.
