Avrahami, Yosef


Yoseph, ben Zahara and Yacob, was born in 1939 in Jab, Yemen, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1949. Yosef was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in mid-May 1957. He was sent to serve in the Armored Corps and participated in training and operational activities, and performed his duties with dedication and loyalty. In mid-November 1959 he was assigned to a reserve unit of the Armored Corps. Yoseph married Miriam and three daughters Aderet, Sagit and Einav were born. During the Six-Day War he participated in the battles for the conquest of Jerusalem, and after that his unit took part in the battles to conquer the Golan Heights, and during the Yom Kippur War he fought with his comrades in the battle against the Syrians in the Golan Heights. On the 13th of Tishrei 5734, October 9th 1973, in a battle on the oil route in the region of Hoshenia, his tank was hit directly and he was killed. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. He left behind a wife, a son and three daughters, parents, four brothers and three sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant. In a condolence letter to the bereaved family, the defense minister wrote: “Yosef was a devoted soldier and a loyal friend. Joseph was loved by all who knew him. “His parents and his wife donated a Torah ark to the synagogue in Gedera, and a Torah cover to the synagogue.
