Avrahami, Yosef


Son of Hinda and Shimon was born on October 21, 1924, in Jerusalem. As a guard, he kept the Jewish settlements in the vicinity of Jerusalem: Kiryat Anavim, Ma’ale Hachamisha, Atarot and Neve Ya’akov. At the end of 1943, he enlisted in the Jewish Brigade and participated in battles against the Germans, while in the army he learned to drive, and exploited this information to rescue refugees from the internment camps and to transfer them to Italy, On the night of June 1-2, 1948, the forces of the Moriah Battalion attacked the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, which was previously occupied by the Legion. The mortars department, where he served, gave the fire support for the attack. He was called by his friends to help repair one of the mortars. A shell that exploded in the mortar shell caused his death, on the day of the 24th of Iyar 5708 (June 2, 1948). He was buried in Sheikh Bader A. On the 28th of Elul 5710 (10.9.1950), he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
